Larvikite gets its name from the Larvik Fjord region in Norway where it was first discovered. It’s a stone that has many names: “Black Moonstone,” “Blue Moonstone,” “Black Labradorite” and “Blue Pearl Granite” - most likely to its glittering labradorescence (a play of colors exhibited when light enters the stone and strikes a twinning surface, then reflects it). However, Larvikite is neither a Moonstone nor a Labradorite stone, though it is a feldspar like Labradorite.
Larvikite is closely related to Labradorite and shares some of the same healing properties: namely, a strong grounding and protective energy, but also one of inspiration. The Schiller Effect, which means the glistening mix of colors from the interaction of light within a mineral, conveys that sense of magic and possibility that can still be accessed even in a dark grey stone such as Larvikite.
