The 5th chakra, also known as the throat chakra, or vishuddha chakra, is located directly on the throat. Throat chakra healing requires us to know about the energies of this chakra. It’s connected with the color blue and associated with willpower, choice, self-knowledge and speaking your own truth. It forces us to make the choice to stand by our own beliefs and express ourselves honestly.
When the throat chakra is balanced, we give up the need to know why things happen the way they do and surrender to the events in our lives as spiritual guidance. We also have the courage to make powerful changes in our lives, but also know the things we cannot change. Declaring that we can no longer stay at the job we hate, hold a belief that is popular in among our friends or family, or be mistreated in a relationship, are acts of an opened throat chakra. This chakra holds the power of choice within our lives and the ability to express what we know in our hearts to those around us.
A throat chakra blockage postpones taking action and making transformational decisions in our life. We then live with a blocked fifth chakra, we stay in old patterns, habits and beliefs even though we recognize we need to take action and change those behaviors and thought patterns. It also represents a lack of faith in the Divine. When your throat chakra is blocked, you feel the need to know why things happen the way they do and you don’t trust that everything happens as part of a greater spiritual plan. You may also be unable to express your ideas, opinions and decisions to others.
The essence of throat chakra healing is to have the courage to make the choices we need to make, accept what we cannot not change, and have the wisdom to know the difference. It also requires that we stand firmly with our newly declared beliefs and habits, and we don’t let others or situations influence what we know to be true.
Physically, a throat chakra blockage is said to be linked to thyroid problems, scoliosis, chronic sore throat, addiction, and laryngitis.
Using Crystals for Throat Chakra Healing
The 5th chakra stones we chose for this layout are lapis lazuli, turquoise, blue apatite, shungite, and clear quartz. Any blue crystals or blue gemstones will work well as throat chakra stones.

4 Turqoise Stones: Turquoise is known as the Master Healer and strengthens your connection to the areas of your life that you want to heal
1 Blue Apatite Stone: Blue Apatite stones are powerful for increasing your personal power to achieve your goals and intentions.
1 Shungite Stone: Shungite will neutralize the energy that is realized during throat chakra healing
1 Clear Quartz Stone: Quartz enhances the properties of all the other stones and brings clarity to situations
Place your throat chakra crystals in the grid formation shown in the picture above over your throat. If you don’t have anyone around to help you place the throat chakra stones, it may be easier to first lay the stones in the formation next to you and then transfer them over to your body. Once you have finished the grid, close your eyes and breath deeply, entering a meditative state.
Once you feel you have gained a better understanding of why the energy in your throat chakra is blocked, remove the throat chakra crystals and journal about what you gained from the meditation. Repeat this exercise, ideally for 21 days for a set amount of time. They key is commitment and consistency.
