How to Make an Action Plan for Your New Year Resolutions

Intentions are like small goals that we can achieve in each moment, often contributing to a larger goal. We’ve had great success working with our intentions throughout our lives, which is why we were shocked to learn only eight percent of people manage to keep their New Year Resolutions.

Moving into the New Year offers the ideal time to create an intentional life that will prevent you from being in the 92 percent of people who fail to achieve their New Year Resolutions.

Set your intentions on the New Moon of each month
Working with the phases of the moon provides additional energy, motivation and insight for you to bring your intentions to life. Starting with the new moon on January, 9, rev up your intentions with a new moon ritual. Then at the full moon, re-center and focus, taking note of the obstacles you faced and adjusting your path accordingly to move forward.

Create intentions for multiple areas of your life
Each moon cycle, focus on a different intention. Often times, we pick one large goal that is difficult to attain. Then, when we don’t see results, we lose motivation and our resolution gets tossed aside. By having goals in multiple areas of your life, it allows you to feel a renewal of motivation each time you focus on a new intention. It also forces you too make subtle changes that have a large impact, rather than such a large goal that you aren’t able to manage. Setting intentions is the most important aspect of any transformation, so make sure to also use healing crystals for your New Year Resolutions.

Here’s some of our ideas of what areas of life you can set intentions for each month:

January- Physical Health
February- Romantic Relationship
March- Abundance and Prosperity
April- Love and Care for the Environment
May- Career and Passion
June- Fun and Creativity
July- Family and Friends
August- Adventure
September- Spiritual Growth
October- Releasing Negative Energy
November- Community Service and Giving
December- Creating Positive Energy

Discover your motivation, action steps and potential obstacles
For each month or goal, write them down. Writing goals down has been proven to increase the likelihood of achieving them. After writing them down, expand on why you want to achieve that goal. Then come up with simple action steps you can take each day and week that will help achieve that goal. Lastly, write down the obstacles you may face and how you can go about dealing with them. Research has found accounting for the challenges you may face and finding a solution before they arise, largely contributes to maintaining and achieving goals over time. The more detail you can add to each of these, the more likely you’ll feel motivation and guidance to bring your intentions to life.

Daily, Weekly, Monthly and 90-day Check-ins
Journaling will act as a powerful exercise to keep you connected to your goals. Writing in a journal provides an outlet for you to examine what is or is not working, houses entries that can act as motivation for achieve your goals, and acts as a reminder for how far you’ve come when you can glance back at the pages and see how you’ve changed and grown. Journaling acts as a mindfulness exercise that re-centers you on your goals and helps you identify what is helping or harming your progress. Check in with yourself each day, week, month and 90 days, going over what you’ve accomplished and what still needs work.
